Film selection and thickness
Ask for the exact product and its glass compatibility rather than pricing by thickness alone. Different film specifications change the material and installation scope. Thickness alone does not establish forced-entry performance, a guaranteed delay or compliance; assess the complete glass, film, frame and attachment system.
Attachment belongs in the price
Film-to-glass adhesion and attachment of the filmed pane to the frame are different parts of the system. Compatible attachment may be required to help retain fractured glass within the opening. Ask whether frame preparation and required attachment are included. A film-only quote is not equivalent to a complete film-and-attachment scope; do not omit required attachment to reduce the total.
Glass size, pane count and preparation
Record approximate width, height and count for each group of openings. Many small panes can involve different cutting and finishing work from a few larger panes with similar total area. Existing film removal, adhesive cleanup, unknown glass construction, coatings and damaged frames or seals should be identified before the proposal is finalized.
Access and occupied buildings
High windows, lifts, restricted work areas and furniture or display clearance affect access planning. For an occupied business, discuss tenant hours, phased work and any after-hours arrangements. For a home, identify the rooms and openings to assess and how the installer can reach them. Confirm scheduling and product-specific curing instructions rather than assuming one installation duration.
Residential, commercial and school scope
A home quote, commercial building quote and district proposal are not interchangeable. School scope may include multiple campuses, opening IDs, phased access and proposal documentation. Give bidders the same opening schedule and ask for separate film, preparation, attachment and access line items. Keep sensitive campus vulnerabilities out of public forms.
Prepare for a local estimate
Share the Houston or Montgomery County property location, approximate pane sizes and counts, known glass details, main discussion goal and access restrictions. Ask for product names, assumptions, exclusions, required attachment and warranty terms in writing. Ordinary safety and security film does not stop bullets; separately tested ballistic-resistant systems require a distinct specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a published security-film price per square foot?
Alpha Shield's FAQ does not publish a numerical security-film rate. A useful price requires the actual glass area, pane count, film, preparation, required attachment and access scope. Request a free estimate.
Why can two security-film quotes differ?
They may cover different products, openings, preparation, attachment or access arrangements. Compare itemized scopes and exclusions, not just totals. A film-only price is not the same as a complete film-and-attachment proposal.
Does thicker film guarantee better protection?
No. Film thickness alone does not establish forced-entry performance or a delay time. Any protection claim needs evidence for the complete glass, film, frame and attachment system.
What should a school send for an initial quote?
Provide campus and building counts, approximate opening dimensions and counts, known glass information, access arrangements and requested proposal documentation. Keep sensitive security plans out of public forms.
