School security window film questions
What does security window film for schools do?
Safety and security window film can help hold broken glass together and, as part of an appropriately specified film-and-attachment system, help delay forced entry through glazing. Performance depends on the complete opening: glass, frame, film and attachment. It complements secure doors, access control and emergency procedures; it does not replace them.
Does school security window film stop bullets?
Ordinary safety and security window film does not stop bullets. Alpha Shield also presents C-Bond BRS as a separate system offering. Any ballistic-resistance claim must match the documented tested assembly and installation requirements, not be applied to ordinary window film or every campus opening.
Which school windows and doors should a district assess first?
Start with the district's safety assessment and a facilities walk-through. Entry vestibules, front office glazing, door sidelites and accessible ground-floor windows are common areas to evaluate. Classroom vision panels and other glazing may also belong in the scope. Priorities must reflect each campus rather than a universal list.
Can film be installed on our existing school glass?
Suitability needs an opening assessment. Record the glass type and thickness if known, pane dimensions, existing films or coatings, and frame and sealant condition. Unknown glass details, damaged panes or deteriorated frames should be reviewed before specifying the work; do not assume every existing opening is suitable.
Why does a film-and-attachment system matter?
Film helps retain fragments within a broken pane. A compatible attachment system may be required to connect the filmed glass to the frame and help retain that fractured pane within the opening. Request the manufacturer's attachment requirements for the exact film, glass and frame; a film-only quote may not represent the same scope.
Is thicker security film always better for schools?
Thickness alone does not establish forced-entry performance, a delay time or compliance. Compare the complete proposed system with manufacturer instructions and relevant test reports. Ask whether the tested glass, frame, film and attachment match the proposed campus opening, and document any differences.
Will security film affect visibility, privacy or solar control?
The result depends on the selected product. Clear security film and tinted or solar-control options serve different needs. Ask for product-specific visible light transmission, appearance and glass compatibility information. Coordinate privacy, supervision, visibility and applicable exit requirements with the district before selection.
How should a district scope a multi-campus project?
Assign campus, building and opening IDs. Record pane counts, approximate dimensions, glass details and the desired protection, then group openings into priorities and phases. Share the same opening schedule with each bidder. Keep sensitive vulnerabilities and detailed campus security plans out of public request forms.
What should a school security film proposal include?
Request product names, glass and frame assumptions, preparation, required attachment, quantities, access arrangements, installation phases, exclusions, warranty and handover documents. Ask for current manufacturer instructions and reports supporting any protection claim. Separate line items make proposals easier to compare; references should identify which company performed the work.
How much does security window film for schools cost?
A useful price requires the opening schedule and site assessment. Film selection, glass area, preparation, attachment, access and phased or after-hours work affect the quote. Alpha Shield can discuss the initial scope and a written proposal; a universal per-square-foot price would not account for those differences.
Can installation take place during school breaks or after hours?
Discuss school holidays, summer breaks and after-hours access when planning the project, and confirm availability before committing to dates. Agree on occupied-area separation, room access, furniture clearance and movement between buildings. Project duration depends on the assessed scope and access arrangements.
When is the installed system ready, and how should it be maintained?
Obtain written, product-specific drying and attachment-curing instructions. Installation completion is not necessarily the same as readiness for the intended protective performance; conditions and products vary. Retain care instructions, warranty terms, opening IDs and installed-system details, and agree on how damaged glass or edge and seal concerns will be reported.
Does choosing a funding source confirm grant eligibility?
No. The school project request collects funding information for planning; a selection does not establish eligibility, award approval or purchasing compliance. District facilities and purchasing teams should confirm their own funding and procurement requirements. Select 'Not determined yet' when funding is undecided.
