Begin with a shared opening schedule
Assign campus, building and opening IDs, and record approximate pane dimensions, counts and known glass details. Identify existing coatings or film and the frame and sealant condition. Mark unknowns for a site review rather than guessing. The district's facilities and safety teams should set priorities. Keep detailed vulnerabilities and security plans out of public forms and public bid summaries where disclosure is inappropriate.
Ask bidders to distinguish the intended outcomes
Broken-glass retention, forced-entry delay, solar control and visual privacy are not interchangeable. Safety and security film can help hold broken glass together and, in an appropriately specified film-and-attachment system, help delay forced entry. Ordinary safety and security film does not stop bullets, prevent every intrusion or guarantee a response window. A separately tested ballistic-resistant system needs a separate specification and evidence.
Match test reports to the actual assembly
If a proposal names a test standard, request the report rather than relying on a badge or abbreviated claim. Compare the tested glass, frame, film, attachment and installation with the proposed campus opening. Document differences and unresolved assumptions. Film thickness alone does not establish a delay time or compliance. This checklist does not declare an installation tested, rated or compliant with a named standard.
Include required attachment and preparation
Film-to-glass adhesion and attachment of filmed glass to the frame are separate details. Compatible attachment may be required to help retain a fractured pane within its opening. Ask for the exact manufacturer's requirements and frame assumptions. Required attachment is part of the specified system, not an optional cosmetic upgrade. A film-only total cannot be fairly compared with a proposal including preparation, required attachment and access equipment.
Verify the vendor rather than inferring credentials
Ask for current manufacturer authorization, product information, permission-cleared references and the identity of the company that performed comparable work. Confirm district requirements for insurance, personnel and access directly with the bidder. Alpha Shield is a 3M Authorized Window Film Dealer based in Magnolia. LeWolf's photos, contracts or memberships must not be treated as proof of Alpha Shield's own installation history or purchasing eligibility.
Let purchasing confirm the contract path
Have district purchasing and legal teams confirm the available solicitation or cooperative route, contract scope, vendor eligibility and required records. This guide does not claim that Alpha Shield holds an awarded TIPS, EPIC 6, Sourcewell or other cooperative contract. It also does not say cooperative purchasing automatically removes bidding duties. Confirm funding and any applicable TEA requirements with the district; a funding selection is not approval or grant eligibility.
Compare scope, schedule and handover
Ask for separate preparation, film, attachment and access line items, plus quantities, repairs excluded, phasing and assumptions. Coordinate occupied-area separation, holidays or after-hours access, and confirm availability. At handover, retain opening IDs, installed products, attachment details, applicable warranty, drying and curing instructions, care guidance and supporting test documents. Request a School Project Quote to discuss initial campus counts and non-sensitive scope with Alpha Shield.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should a school request from each bidder?
Request the same opening schedule, exact products, glass and frame assumptions, required attachment, preparation, access, phases, exclusions, applicable warranty and supporting system evidence. References should identify which company performed the work.
Does cooperative purchasing automatically satisfy our requirements?
Do not assume so. District purchasing and legal teams must verify the contract, vendor eligibility, scope and applicable requirements. This guide does not establish Alpha Shield's eligibility under a cooperative contract.
Does a film thickness or test-standard name prove performance?
No. Request the relevant report and compare the complete tested glass, film, frame and attachment with the proposed opening. Document differences before approving claims or scope.
